SUKHUM, August 26 (Itar-Tass) —— The presidential elections in Abkhazia comply with the republic's Constitution and the international legal standards, chairman of the Council of the Russian Free Elections Foundation Vasily Volkov said at the CEC information centre on Friday.
International observers are present in various regions of the republic, watching the vote process, he said. According to him, the vote is proceeding in a calm atmosphere, without violations that could influence the vote outcome.
When visiting polling stations, Volkov saw that Abkhazian citizens sincerely wished to realize their constitutional voting right.
"We can adopt the advanced experience of the young Abkhazian democracy," he noted.
Abkhazian Interior Minister Leonid Dzapshba said the situation was calm in the republic. Several policemen were on duty at each polling station.
