MOSCOW, August 25 (Itar-Tass) — UN Security Council should play a leading role in the post-conflict assistance to Libya, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Thursday in a telephone conversation with the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon.
“The sides discussed the post-conflict assistance to Libya on the part of the international community and the Russian side stressed the importance of reserving a leading role in this process for the UN Security Council,” a source at the Foreign Ministry said.
Sergei Lavrov and Ban Ki-moon emphasized the need for taking account of the needs of the Libyan population in formulating the grounds for the UN presence in that country.
