KIEV, August 25 (Itar-Tass) — Ukraine’s former Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko insists on opening a criminal case against the incumbent President, Viktor Yanukovich.
As she spoke Thursday during a session at Kiev’s Pechersky district court, she recalled that the prices of natural gas imported from Russia went up 70% in 2007, the year when Yanukovich held the prime minister’s office, versus 2006 when she occupied the position.
At the same time, the fees for the transits of Russian gas to Europe remained unchanged, Timoshenko claimed.
“If you abide by the logic of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the situation then was exactly the same as it is now,” she said. “A petition of this kind /for instituting a criminal case against Yanukovich – Itar-Tass/ will be filed tomorrow.”
Timoshenko indicated she does not think changes of the pricing parameters for gas are a crime but if she is standing trial on charges related to prices, this means Yanukovich should stand trial under the same type of charges, too.
