Palestinian factions thank Russia for support at meeting in Moscow — Hamas statement

In their statement, the Palestinians also noted a "positive and constructive" atmosphere at the Moscow meeting and expressed their readiness to continue dialogue in order to "achieve comprehensive national unity"

CAIRO, March 1. /TASS/. Palestinian political factions whose representatives gathered for a meeting in Moscow expressed their gratitude to Russia for supporting Palestine, according to a post-meeting statement published on the Telegram channel of radical Palestinian movement Hamas.

"The Palestinian factions that met in the city of Moscow are expressing gratitude and appreciation to the Russian leadership for organizing their meetings as well as for its stance in support of Palestinian affairs," the statement noted.

In their statement, the Palestinians also noted a "positive and constructive" atmosphere at the Moscow meeting and expressed their readiness to continue dialogue in order to "achieve comprehensive national unity, encompassing all Palestinian forces and factions within the framework of the Palestine Liberation Organization as the only legitimate representative of the Palestinian people."

As reported earlier, representatives from various Palestinian movements intended to meet in Moscow from February 29 through March 1-2, for consultations in order to overcome an internal split. The Russian side provided a venue for the meeting between delegates from factions within the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), including the Fatah movement, as well as participants from Hamas and the Islamic Jihad group. In all, envoys from more than 10 organizations have arrived in Moscow for the meeting. As Ayman Al-Raqab from the Fatah movement told a TASS correspondent, at the Moscow meeting the Palestinian factions planned to reach a consensus on forming a single Palestinian government of technocrats.
